The Staff Data Scientistis responsibleforleading thedesign and development of analytical techniques at the intersection ofAI/ML and biological sequence data.The work will support both internal R&D processes as well as external customer products, all with the goal ofadvancing Cepheids diagnostic offerings.

Thispositionreports to the SeniorDirectorofMachine Learning/Data Scienceandis part of the AI & Computational Biology groupin the largerTechnology &Innovation organization.The position is based in Sunnyvale, CA, with consideration for candidateslocatedremotely or in the Boston, MA area.The Technology & Innovation organizationis responsible forincubating new products, techniques, and processes that keep Cepheid at the forefront of molecular diagnostics.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Provide thoughtleadership on challenging problems at the intersection of AI/ML and computational biology

• Lead the design and development of computational tools that will accelerate molecular diagnostics R&D

• BuildAI/ML models to characterize pathogens from whole genome sequences

• Explore applications of genomic language models tosupervise learningtasksforsequence data

• Design and implement robust model evaluation frameworks to assess production readinessto meet regulatoryand commercializationrequirements

The essential requirements for the job include:

• Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computational Biology or a related field and relevant experience as follows:Bachelors degree and 9+ yearsof experience & post-education experience ; Masters degree and 7+ yearsof experience & post-education experience; or Doctoral degree and 4+ yearsof experience & post-education experience

• StrongfoundationinML / statistical learning fundamentalsand hypothesis driven experimental design, including deep learning, statistical modeling, classification, regression

• Experience with Python data and ML stack(Scikit-learn,PyTorch, TensorFlow, Jax)

• Experience developing ML models in a modern cloudenvironment

Travel Requirements:

• Ability totravel;expected 5%overnight travel

It would be a plus if you alsopossesspreviousexperience in:

• Machine learning models for sequence data

• Familiaritywith bioinformaticpipelines and sequencing databases

• Developing machine learning models for healthcare and regulatory applications

The annual salary range for this role is$145,000 to$200,000USD.This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range ofpossible compensationfor this role at the time of this posting. This range may bemodifiedin the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.#LI-Remote
