Junior Microsoft SQL Server Engineer – Onsite - Active TS/SCI eligible
GDIT is seeking a Junior System Administrator to support secured communications for FEMAs Office of National Continuity Programs in Bluemont, VA. The role will be responsible for a wide variety of continuity communications roles. Responsibilities may include the following: - Manage the configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and deployment of Cisco networking equipment
- Maintain Cisco enterprise and distribution switches, performing routine tasks such as VLAN assignments, port provisioning, and firmware updates, while assisting in the deployment of virtual switches
- Plan, implement, and manage Windows Server 2019 infrastructure, including operating system configuration, network interface card configuration, and local policy implementation, while ensuring all platforms meet the latest security and version standards
- Perform Active Directory Domain Services tasks, to include user/group management, OU management, DNS record updates, GPO management
- Maintain VMware environment, including VMware ESXi hosts to perform VM deployments, snapshots, and performance monitoring, while ensuring current patching across virtual and physical platforms
- Configure and monitor security management servers and perimeter sensors to ensure endpoint protection and network threat detection are active and up to date
- Configure and update network policy servers and services
- Utilize SolarWinds and Splunk to monitor network and server health to proactively identify performance degradation
- Maintain technical documentation for system configurations to support Risk Management Framework (RMF) compliance and ongoing Authorization to Operate (ATO) accreditation efforts
- Manage inventory control documents and life cycle maintenance schedules associated with operational equipment
- Provide feedback and guidance in developing solutions to unique mission requirements involving replacement, upgrades, and augmentations to existing communications capabilities
- Document and maintain standard operating procedures, routine tasks, updates to systems information in manuals, diagrams, reports, and flow charts.
- Assist directly in logistics operations pertaining to acquisition, receipt, relocation, and deployment of equipment
The ideal candidate will meet most of the following criteria: - Strong understanding of IP routing and switching fundamentals, including VLANs (802.1Q), enterprise switching architecture, and basic WAN transport principles
- Working knowledge of Windows 10/11, Windows Server 2019, and Windows active directory
- Experience in administrating VMware ESXi hosts and managing virtual machine within VMware environment
- Understanding of core network protocols for troubleshooting and managing environments utilizing DNS, DHCP and ICMP, with a knowledge of secure transport (SSH, FTP), unified communications (SIP, SRTP) and routing (BGP, IGP)
- Experience using network monitoring tools, such as SolarWinds and/or Splunk
- Fundamental understanding of cyber security principles to include the operation of intrusion detection and intrusion prevention appliances
- Working knowledge of implementing security technical implementation guidance (STIG) and conducting security content automation protocol (SCAP) compliance audits
- Adept at utilizing Nessus or other vulnerability scanning tools for vulnerability discovery and analysis
- Strong in performing technical troubleshooting to resolve hardware and software issues, using a fundamental understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS/DHCP services, and VLAN configurations to support
- Basic understanding of voice over IP (VOIP) implementation to include how distributed voice services are managed by a communications management platform
- Knowledge of generally accepted standards pertaining to technical writing/documentation associated with operational requirements documents, standard operating procedures, and quick reference guides.
Qualifications: - Available for travel within the continental United States for periods of time up to two weeks in support of mission activities.
- Possesses an active TOP SECRET/SCI clearance and possesses eligibility requirements to access sensitive compartmented information.
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills with the ability to articulate complex mission information to members of U.S. Governments leadership.
- Be capable of establishing and cultivating friendly relationships with partner agency personnel, third party equipment providers, and sibling programs internal to FEMA.
- Must be self-sufficient and capable of maintaining required operational tempo when working autonomously or with minimal supervision.
- Work location will be Bluemont, VA. with limited travel to Washington, D.C. and offices in the DMV area. Work hours are flexible, but contract staff must meet minimal requirements on a weekly basis. CONUS travel is at the request of the customer and may not be flexible under some circumstances.
